Erzyan Language Day, celebrated on April 16, is meant to raise awareness of the language, encourage its use, and support efforts to preserve it. Like many smaller languages around the world, Erzyan faces hardships as younger generations shift toward more dominant languages.

Linguistically, Erzyan is known for its rich system of cases (ways of showing grammatical relationships) and its agglutinative structure — meaning words are often formed by adding multiple suffixes to a base. This makes it quite different from languages like English. 3/4

Today is the Erzyan language day. It's celebrated each year on the 16th of April, marking the birthday of Anatoli Ryabov, a professor of Erzyan language. He played a major role in the development of the modern Erzyan literary language, until his execution by russians in 1938. 1/4

77 years ago today, Soviet authorities deported 20,700 people from Estonia to Siberia in cattle wagons - the youngest just 3 days old, the oldest 95. This will not be forgotten.

Today Estonia remembers the March deportations of 1949. Over 20,000 innocent people were torn from their homes and sent to Siberia. Now Russia is repeating these crimes in Ukraine. We stand with Ukraine.
