Was great to work on the #Alphafold3 announcement video, made with #b3d and #MolecularNodes #GeometryNodes

How could #AlphaFold 3 transform drug discovery? Most drugs are small molecules known as ligands that bind to proteins to change how they interact in human health and disease. AlphaFold 3 can predict these interactions to atomic accuracy.

Have you had a chance to use RFdiffusion?
We would love to hear about it! Please share your story here or send us an email: contact@ipd.uw.edu

The most impactful use of generative AI may not be text, images, or video. My team @UWproteindesign is developing tools that literally generate new genes 🧬
We call this process protein design.
Here’s a beginner’s guide ⬇️

It's an incredible day for structure-based vaccine design, and I'm thrilled to see our prefusion RSV F antigen get approved as the first RSV vaccine. Still more work to do to reduce the RSV disease burden, but this will help! Congrats @BarneyGrahamMD! cnn.com/2023/05/03/hea…

Today we report the use of reinforcement learning, a strategy used to solve games like chess and Go, to a challenge in protein design. This milestone in using #AI for science may enable more effective cancer treatments & new biodegradable textiles.

.@karaswisher: What's the greatest application of these new AI tools?
.@sama: They will greatly expand our scientific knowledge.
Kara: Isn't that already happening with folding proteins?
Sam: That's the one I am personally most excited about.

It's not just #ChatGPT . There’s another facet of the #AI revolution, a marriage of deep learning and #biology , that’s at least as important, but far less widely understood @UWproteindesign @DeepMind @MetaAI wsj.com/articles/biolo…

@notresz @DaveJuergens You're right — without guidance, denoising is mostly useless. That's why RFD is a guided diffusion model. It can be guided toward a defined topologies or symmetries, or it can be made to include specific protein features like binding or active sites.

@DaveJuergens I cant find what RFD does. All I've found so far just say that it is a denoiser and you feed it a random starting backbone. Wouldn't proteins "denoised" from random starting backbones most likely be useless, where is the "direction" in this process in the context of engineering?
English

@soragnilab That is wild and scary!
It also made up that I have a family full of scientists. Perhaps that trope is so common that it applies it to everyone in science?
