Today is #CleanAirDay 🌱 There are many ways you can reduce air pollution, and remembering to turn your engine off when your vehicle is stationary is one of them 🅿️ Idling your engine wastes both fuel and money, in addition to emitting unnecessary air pollutants 💨

Air pollution is the largest environmental health risk we face today, according to @WHO. When we breathe polluted air, it can inflame the lining of our lungs and get into our bloodstream ending up in the heart and brain, causing lung disease, heart disease, dementia and strokes.

@idlingaction Hi there. Can you advise on a form of words with which to approach drivers idling their engines? A real problem on our local streets. I don’t want to get into a fight. Do you have a tried and tested script of some kind?

With higher levels of air pollution expected across London for the next few days, please remember to switch off your vehicle engines whenever possible. Even better walk, cycle or scoot instead!

Today we welcomed Mia and Glenys from @idlingaction to work with children @OLSPN3.The children were learning about the effects of nitrogen dioxide on the environment. Our ambassadors then hit the streets to educate people about switching off their engines instead of idling #SE26
