Cailean looked the soldier up and down as he got a bit closer to him. The shield in the corner had an eagle sprawled out across it, tentacles hiding underneath it. A gruesome image of liberty with the entanglements of order running all throughout it.

Loaded. “You don’t get to put it in a corner and call it history,” James adds, jaw tight. “You don’t get to walk away clean because you decided you were done.” He stops a few feet short, close enough to feel the past pressing in from both sides. “So tell me,” he says, voice dropping a notch, something darker threading through it, “what does a Hydra captain do when the war’s over…” “…and the ghosts finally come knockin’?”
