Today, billions sit inside systems like Aave Companies and Morpho Labs. A large part of that is collateral. Capital that isn't trading. Capital that isn't moving. Just sitting there to keep loans alive. DeFi scaled fast. Capital efficiency for traders didn't.

DeFi lending is over 5 years old. Protocols evolved. TVL exploded. UX improved. But the core mechanic behind most lending systems? Almost unchanged.

The model still looks like this: Lock collateral. Borrow less than you locked. Trade the difference. Year after year, the structure stayed the same. Protocols got bigger. But trader capital efficiency didn't change much.

Two traders. Same strategy. Same market. Trader A: $50K capital, locked $33K as collateral, trades with $17K. Trader B: $50K capital, full deployment, trades with $50K. Same skill. Very different outcome. The difference isn't talent. It's access.

Collateral sits idle just to keep a position alive. That’s the quiet cost of many lending systems today. DeFi solved trust. Capital efficiency is still being figured out.

Timing in crypto is everything. But the infrastructure built to help traders move faster is the same infrastructure slowing them down. Deposit. Approve. Borrow. Transfer. Execute. Five steps between conviction and action. That's five opportunities to miss the move.

Good strategy + insufficient capital = watching someone else profit from the trade you identified first. This happens every day in DeFi. And almost nobody talks about it.
