Wakenya pia mmeanza kuchosha na wokeness ya upuzi. What would we be saying if there was no CCTV in the dorm? Why are people acting as if a dorm is a bedroom at home or a bathroom? The fact that it’s a dorm shared by many people means that privacy is already limited.

If the person watching the CCTV was aware kids were sleeping in the hallways why was nothing done about this ? In case of an emergency that’s the perfect set up for injuries and stampedes.

A lot of overthinking surrounding the Utumishi Girls CCTV footage. The question of why CCTV cameras are installed within the dormitory area is, in my view, misplaced. The fact that the students involved in the incident knew the cameras existed and still proceeded with their actions, in itself, explains why the school found it necessary to install them. From my observation, the cameras are positioned along the corridors, which are common areas, considering the dormitory is designed in a cubicle format that still allows students a degree of privacy. The real question of accountability should be directed at the school management regarding the overcrowding in the dormitory. As you also can see from the CCTV footage, the dormitory overcrowding may have been a significant contributing factor to the tragedy and the loss of more students' lives.

No. The CCTV on the Hallways cannot be INTRUSIVE, installation of CCTV has been Litigated at the High Court. Privacy would only be VIOLATED if the same is INTRUSIVE. The Students ordinarily sleep in the cubicles not the Hallways. Having students sleep in the Hallway is a separate issue that does not interfere with whether CCTVs on the Hallways is lawful or not. ✅️💯

There is nothing wrong with having CCTV in a dormitory hallway, as long as there are proper safeguards and clear checks on who can access the footage. That said, this should not distract from the real issue at hand. Sixteen lives were lost, others were left with life-altering injuries, and many families have been left shattered beyond repair. In this tragic context, the CCTV footage has been instrumental in identifying those responsible, helping ensure accountability while also protecting innocent people from being wrongfully implicated.

Those kids who started the fire at Utumishi, which claimed 16 lives, did not know the magnitude of the consequences of their actions. They are kids. Do not judge them harshly. We all make mistakes. Some are fatal like this. I am sure they did not intend to kill their friends. Redemption.
