Pick offs at 1st and how to receive the ball. A very big key to making this successful is mainly on the catcher. Anytime I post about this I hear “this way never works and we always just take off for 2nd.” The older you get, the smarter catchers get. A good catcher should be reading the runner and their movements. If a runner is dancing 20ft off the bag and the catcher throws to 1st, that’s on the catcher and of course the runner will be safe at 2nd. Practice your pick offs at 1st! With and without runners.
