You’re waiting to pay for your groceries, but the lady in front of you has an issue with her EBT card being declined. She jumps on the phone to complain to the person that SOLD her the card, because there’s no funds on the card. Meanwhile she starts running her mouth when people begin to understand what she’s doing. This happens all the time, and just a fraction of the fraud that’s been plaguing these programs for years. No worries though, US taxpayers will always foot the bill. This madness needs to end.

I am deeply troubled to learn that a person in custody died on Rikers Island this morning. My thoughts are with their loved ones, who are now facing an unimaginable loss. Transparency and accountability are essential, and the Department of Correction is conducting an investigation. While we do not yet know the cause of death, too many have died on Rikers Island for far too long. Rikers must close, and we will pursue every avenue to do so as quickly as possible.

An estimated 400 teens are running amok downtown on State St. and Michigan Ave. It's an absolute mess. CPD contact tells us some teens have mace and tasers. Teens were tasing people. One teen has been hospitalized. Multiple arrests, multiple fights. Tact Teams sent downtown. A curfew was imposed at 10 p.m. This is probably just an "isolated incident," and we urge you not to demonize unruly teens.
