I don't think he is an NBA level player in any capacity. If he gets a roster spot, it's because the Pels can use the 2nd pick exception to sign him and his cap hit is necessary for tax evasion.

A good rule of thumb. When Danny Ainge says it will take at least a pick to get a player, he means it will take at least two. And even then you might not get your guy

@GriffinPresser We were 2-14 in close games and Murray seems to be a much better closer than anyone on this team except maybe Zion. That alone makes a huge difference

@GriffinPresser Utah would be best option. Kessler & John Collins for Ingram works and fills two major needs on our end. Get a backup 3 with whatever we have left and that’s a solid rotation. Sexton the better get but the other two are both solid upgrades

Pelicans current roster without any moves has 10 players guaranteed. Note, Antonio Reeves has not signed anything yet that would guarantee a spot. Certainly can lead to interesting constructions moving forward in terms of trade.

Pick one for the Pelicans to boost Trey, Herb, and Zion. Assume the big man is a lob threat rebounder that can't shoot.

What I care about offensively from the guard position - can you break down a defense and reliably create advantages? - can you make decisions when they put two on the ball? - can you provide value without the ball?

@FearTheBrown Just knowing Zion can defend at a high level, I see a path for 30+ mpg from a guard. Even a good C probably isn’t breaking 20-25mpg

If you could only add ONE this summer next to Zion between a high level glove like fit at big or high level glove like fit at guard, what are you adding?

Garland and Trae are without a doubt better offensive players, but they come with severe roster limitation because of their size. You almost assuredly have to play a real deal rim protector and rebounders with those guys.

Dejounte Murray isn't a perfect fit with Zion, but out of the rumored to be available guards, he probably offers the best balance of - creation - willingness to take threes - rebounding - size - defensive potential (stunk this year) - sub max contract

Guys, the Hawks are a disaster. Since 2021 they have been THE most disappointing team for three straight seasons. The only team going through the motions more with as much talent as they have even with their injuries is the Nets. I want good things for the Hawks. They need BIG changes. Top down, tear it up.

@FearTheBrown What about Trae for BI & stuff? Great 3pt shooter, gets to the FT line at a high rate and can control an offense in clutch minutes with Zion. If they truly believe in Zion at the 5, it’s a very enticing supporting cast IMO and get a 15-20mpg C in draft or FA/add Onyeka to deal

I think the Pelicans need to be ultra aggressive this summer in one of 3 ways. 1) go after KAT. Not KAT approximates. KAT specifically. There's no other high volume shooting big in the league that also rebounds 2) go after an all-star big like Sengun/Allen/Mobley/Lauri 3) find an elite small ball guy who can score and they can close games with. The goal needs to be creating a lineup where all 5 are legit scoring threats + aren't sacrificing on the glass. The more you sacrifice on the glass, the more potent the offense needs to be. Small ball can't feature a place for opponents to hide their big. Defeats the purpose of small ball.
