There’s a danger when theology comes before spirituality. Right ideas can end up hurting people when they’re cut off from the living Christ.

In the early days of my spiritual transformation, I was grasping for growth faster than I could keep up. What surprised me most was not the rushing, but the quiet grace of finally recognizing it.

There’s a practice I’ve returned to for twenty years. It isn’t dramatic, but it has helped me so much.
The practice is simple: getting up early.

Today we remember Fred Rogers and a life devoted to kindness, compassion, and care for children. Though he passed on February 27, 2003, his lessons continue to guide and comfort us every day. #FredRogers

Hunger is not only in the body, but in the soul. Fasting teaches me to say “no” to self-centeredness so that my “yes” to God becomes more whole.

For a long time, I imagined incarnation as something God did and then finished.
Now I’m learning to see it as a life shared — Emmanuel, God with us, a friendship that never ends.

Transformation doesn’t come from chasing the extraordinary, but from attending to the ordinary, again and again. Breath has become that teacher for me.

Faith doesn’t always clear things up. Sometimes it teaches us how to move forward without certainty.

I didn’t need to understand the path to be walking it. The knowing came later, drawing me into a rhythm not to achieve more, but to receive more.

So the nonviolent approach does not immediately change the heart of the oppressor. It first does something to the hearts and souls of those committed to it. It gives them new self-respect; it calls up resources of strength and courage that they did not know they had. Finally, it reaches the opponent and so stirs his conscience that reconciliation becomes a reality.
—Martin Luther King Jr., I Have a Dream: Writings and Speeches that Changed the World, 60.

I wrote about my soul as a wasteland—wandering, wondering, waiting, without knowing how long. These days I’m trying not to rush the wondering toward something more certain.

@fortelabs I feel #4 is the strongest because it visually communicates “reviewing.” But I wouldn’t settle for it unless the publisher makes you. Use it as the next jumping off point for iteration. The next round could be the one.
