Technically, Iran has no legal basis to charge fees or close the Strait. Egypt's right to charge tolls for the Suez Canal is part of the 1888 Constantinople Convention, which also guarantees freedom of navigation for all nations. Egypt was granted ownership and sovereignty of the Suez Canal by the United Nations. The Strait of Hormuz is a natural international strait, not a man-made canal like the Suez. Under UN convention, all ships have an unconditional right of transit passage through the Strait. Most importantly, the Suez has an alternative - going around Africa, albeit a longer route. The Strait of Hormuz has limited alternatives, as we have quickly found out.

Military experts say it will be difficult for the United States to retrieve Iran's nuclear materials. A senile rapist who shits himself in public says it will be easy. For busy Americans, it can be hard to know who to trust.

Iran is the head of the snake for global terrorism, and through President Trump’s Operation Epic Fury, we are winning this critical fight at an even faster pace than anticipated. In response to Iran’s terrorist attacks against global energy infrastructure, the Trump Administration will continue to deploy America’s economic and military might to maximize the flow of energy to the world, strengthen global supply, and seek to ensure market stability. Today, the Department of the Treasury is issuing a narrowly tailored, short-term authorization permitting the sale of Iranian oil currently stranded at sea. At present, sanctioned Iranian oil is being hoarded by China on the cheap. By temporarily unlocking this existing supply for the world, the United States will quickly bring approximately 140 million barrels of oil to global markets, expanding the amount of worldwide energy and helping to relieve the temporary pressures on supply caused by Iran. In essence, we will be using the Iranian barrels against Tehran to keep the price down as we continue Operation Epic Fury. This temporary, short-term authorization is strictly limited to oil that is already in transit and does not allow new purchases or production. Further, Iran will have difficulty accessing any revenue generated and the United States will continue to maintain maximum pressure on Iran and its ability to access the international financial system. So far, the Trump Administration has been working to bring around 440 million additional barrels of oil to the global market, undercutting Iran’s ability to leverage its disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. President Trump’s pro-energy agenda has driven U.S. oil and gas production to record levels, strengthening energy security and lowering fuel costs. Any short-term disruption now will ultimately translate into longer-term economic gains for Americans – because there is no prosperity without security.

Ask your self why are we attacking? Who are we protecting? Why no complaining about cost or access to our bases? These countries without US or Israel have military strength equal to or greater than Iran. Yet they sit idle while we spend US lives and $$. Why no push back from DJT?

The national average price of gasoline in the U.S. has reached $3.90 per gallon, while diesel has climbed to $5.09 per gallon. It now looks like gasoline will hit $4/gal next week and could head toward $4.10/gal and beyond.

great question- it's a nuance- depends on state/location dynamics, but nationally, I'd estimate >~90% of the rise is due to the Iran situation and <~10% is the seasonality
Dr. Jonker - @jsieds.bsky.social@jsjonker

@GasBuddyGuy Can you seperate out what the typical seasonal rise versus the Strait of Hormuz disruption increases?

The difference between hitting $5/gal in March 2022 and now is today it is in response to direct actions of the current administration's war of choice. In 2022 it was in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

BREAKING: For just the second time ever, the U.S. average diesel price has reached $5 per gallon, according to GasBuddy. It's the highest since December 8, 2022 — the only other time diesel crossed $5 nationally.

As gas prices get higher it would not surprise me to see even the flushest of consumers take a little more care in making meat purchases. Nothing puts consumers of feed more than gas prices. Beef Cuts are at luxury pricing. Luxuries go first.

I met an American expat in 2007 that was making over $200k working for USAID in Albania. Lived like a king He had no idea how to do the most basic aspects of his job. The Albanians he worked with complained that they had to do his job for him, while making 1/10 as much
Danny@danzu72

I worked for USAID when It was closed, these guys literally were firing senior Foreign Service Officers with 30 years of experience on the spot. These kids were drunk on power and a reckoning is coming. I will always be hot about this shit. I know for a fact we allowed children to die because of these snotty shits.

@Cdnfarmgirl @AprilWheeler5 I’m not sure how long it will last when you start seeing drone videos of American troops being hit from above or begging to drones for mercy. Just search “ POV Ukraine” in any search engine and you’ll find the videos.

Americans have now spent $2.191 billion more on gasoline since Feb. 28, mostly due to the price of oil surging due threat of attack in the Strait. $262 million today alone.
