Goes to my observation about this being possibly the worst-covered war since the advent of modern telecoms. As to why, we might observe, just inter alia: —Digital culture is hostile to real world experience; foreign correspondents historically were worldly, gritty types —The real “foreign” policy for Western intelligentsia involves how to deal with the other (red/blue) team —Centralized messaging and digital tribalism are hostile to empirical, on-the-ground reporting (which doesn’t necessarily support preconceived narratives) —Western education is in the toilet, and without it the cultural and literary knowledge that allows for good foreign/conflict correspondence goes by the wayside —It’s just assumed in digital culture that humans no longer need to talk to humans

It's really no surprise that the NCAA was forced to change - they effectively wanted to run a for-profile enterprise where all the talent (the people who created all the value) were classified as "volunteers". Of course that wasn't allowed to continue.
Dilan Esper@dilanesper

The desire of the NCAA was that it could maintain a third model, where athletics would generate billions of dollars in revenue but it would all be stolen from the talent and apportioned among administrators and schools and coaches.

Comments like this just exemplifies the regression and fall of Europe like almost none other. Europe lost its will and ability to explore a long time ago. And suddenly when you realize that everything else starts making sense.

@constans @sirenblep I've heard stories from people that priests were literally visiting women who had just recently given birth (to like a 5th child) to check on why they weren't pregnant already again. It was quite gross.

Something tells me that IOC will not qualify this outrageous behavior as a political gesture. Unlike the Ukrainian athlete wearing a helmet with pictures of his slain comrades.

A case to ponder.

If you want to save the chimps in Tanzania, the best thing you could do is give the Tanzanians jobs. When people have income, they buy protein at the market instead of hunting it in the forest. Affordable energy means women don't have to chop down the trees that chimps live in just to cook dinner. The animal's survival gets tied to the human's livelihood, and suddenly everyone's pulling in the same direction. Most environmentalists don't want to hear this because it means admitting that prosperity solves problems they've built careers around.

Honestly can't be overstated how much this is true. The staffer/activist class is basically all made up of (well off) hyper-online, Bernie/Warrenites whose priorities are just completely out of touch with the average voter. Even the average Dem base voter.
Everything Price Sufferer (but especially eggs)@agraybee

All the Hasan stuff is downstream of the larger issue that Democrats are captured by staffers and activists that are not only ideologically out of step with the mainstream but also preoccupied with what is essentially internet stan wars.

Political jobs actually pay MUCH less than most white-collar jobs like finance, consulting, and tech, which is why the only college-educated people willing to work in politics are true believers
Jon Schweppe 🇺🇸@JonSchweppe

There’s a bit of a selection bias here — political jobs often pay more and allow for more flexibility than normal jobs. The goal should be to build an economy that allows for raising a family on a single income. The two income trap is real and very challenging for most families.
