Before Pi opened its network, OTC transactions were seen as going against the intended direction of the ecosystem. The Pi Core Team encouraged gifting, bartering goods, and building internal utility instead. From there, a narrative formed: Pi traded OTC was labeled “dirty,” while Pi that had never moved was considered “clean.” The problem is, that’s not how blockchain works. On a blockchain, there is only one thing that matters: transaction history. There is no built-in concept of “clean” or “dirty.” Once Pi exists on Mainnet, every Pi is technically the same — whether it came from mining, wallet transfers, or OTC transactions. There is no line of code that marks one Pi as “clean” and another as “dirty.” So where did this idea come from? Not from the system — but from community perception. Part of it comes from the rejection of OTC trading due to low prices, and the promotion of narratives like GCV ($314,159/Pi). Over time, this created a belief that any Pi traded outside the ecosystem is somehow invalid. But in reality, value does not come from belief alone — it comes from actual supply and demand. Looking at exchanges, when a CEX completes KYB within the Pi ecosystem, it is granted a Pi Mainnet wallet. This acts as a master wallet, from which sub-wallets are created to map user balances. Technically, these are still standard Mainnet transactions, with no difference in “cleanliness.” So what actually matters is not whether your Pi is “clean” or “dirty,” but whether your Pi is valid within the system — meaning it has passed KYC and exists on Mainnet. The hard truth is this: “clean Pi vs dirty Pi” is a narrative issue, not a technological one. If you understand how blockchain works, you’ll see that all Pi on Mainnet is equal at the protocol level. If you don’t, you risk getting caught in debates that have no technical foundation. Don’t let emotion define value. Let the system and the data speak.
