When someone declares: “learning is _____,” it’ll point ya directly to why they value certain pedagogies. The more narrow the phrase in the blank, the more narrow their pedagogies will be. We need to talk more about what we believe learning is.

"Our writing scores have tanked!" The answer is not a program, it's real writing, daily writing, exploring genre, studying what real writers do!

Had the chance to be there for one day- and once again loved my time there and the thinking it caused. Always new pieces to ponder. Thank you @LightofChristCS and @pgliljedahl
Jim Swan@jrswanster

@LightofChristCS Thanks for hosting @pgliljedahl for invaluable PD on #BuildingThinkingClassrooms. The two days flew by as we mastered the art of engagement through thinking activities! #PowerfulChange Thinking classrooms are not just spaces but agents of change #FutureReady

My mentor Don Murray taught me this: Writing is more than just a matter of writing down what I know. Writing allows me to find out what I think. Writing is an act of discovery. That’s what makes it scary.

A reminder: Picture books - fiction, nonfiction, wordless, comic, funny, loving, mysterious, etc., are ALL critical to a child learning to enjoy reading and want to do it. Don't skip them, thinking chapter books are better. nancyebailey.com/2015/11/16/the…
