CAPITEC REPORTS R16BN PROFIT Capitec reported a 22% rise in annual profit to R16.84bn, supported by a growing base of 26 million active clients and solid expansion across lending, insurance and digital services. The bank’s insurance division delivered strong growth, with net income up 38% to R5.2bn. Its international fintech arm, Avafin, recorded a 62% increase in loans, although this was accompanied by a sharp rise in impairments. Today I chaired a panel at the South Africa Investment Conference 2026, which focused on “Agricultural investment for the long-term growth prospects”. We benefitted from the insights of senior policymakers and industry leaders: - Minister @jsteenhuisen — Department of Agriculture - @MissThabiNkosi — highly respected agricultural economist and investment professional, former Chairman of the Land Bank and currently a non-executive director of the Public Investment Corporation. - Jai Shroff — Chairman and Group CEO of UPL Limited. In our discussion, amongst other things, we examined how to accelerate investment in the agriculture, food, fibre, and beverages industry to support the long-term growth prospects of the South African agricultural sector. The panel also identified new and exciting growth areas and provided insights into innovative funding sources for the agricultural sector and its value chain. As the Presidential Envoy on Agriculture and Land, amongst other things, I will work to advance the President’s objective of achieving a 30% increase in South Africa’s agricultural gross value over the next 5 years or so. We also want to increase job creation in the sector, adding another 300k or more in primary agriculture and the value chain. This is dependent on the government releasing its 2.5 million hectares to beneficiaries with title deeds. This will require investment in all major value chains. Some notes: · Agriculture currently employs 950k people, and exports reached a record US$15.1 billion in 2025 (up 10% year-on-year). · The agricultural sector has more than doubled since the dawn of democracy. · South Africa’s agriculture is the 32nd-largest agricultural exporter in the world and the only African country among the top 40 global agricultural exporters. · We are food secure at the national level and the most food-secure country in sub-Saharan Africa (and yes, we still face household food insecurity challenges).

He found out at 15 that she wasn’t his biological mom… and it changed nothing. ❤️ She raised him, loved him, sacrificed for him like her own — never once made him feel different. Today, he’s everything he is because of her. So for her birthday, he surprised her with a brand new home 🏡🥺 “Momma, I can never repay you… but I’m proud to be your son. Thank you for choosing to love me.” ❤️

The unfortunate reality! 🎯

Building a tech business in South Africa is incredibly tough. A lot of the incredible stories that we celebrate are anomalies - they are not the norm. A lot still needs to be done. Especially when it comes to very early stage risk capital.
