Great thread. I get the disappointment when something you love is no longer there. I'm guilty of privately grumbling to friends about certain pieces of art no longer on display in DC museums. The solution is to find new things to love. Also very pro good story-telling.

@waitmanb And undergoing cleaning and restoration work, especially if it has been on display for years, so that it still exists in appropriate shape to return to display in the future.

Which brings us to another issue: if your favorite artifact has been removed from an exhibit, that doesn't mean the museum lit it on fire and tossed in the dumpster out back. It's still there, in the archives.
