🚨 TOMORROW: MPs vote on amendments to the Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill that pose a massive threat to our digital rights. Ministers will be granted sweeping powers to prevent or restrict children's access to internet services. Enforcing this means that users of all ages would be forced to scan their faces with biometric tech or hand over sensitive identity documents just to browse the web. It effectively outlaws online anonymity. Stripping that away endangers whistleblowers, journalists and dissidents, as well as marginalised groups who rely on privacy to safely connect and explore their identities online without fear of being outed or targeted. Age-gating the internet doesn't solve the root causes of online harm; it just creates massive new privacy risks for us all. Labour MPs must not support this amendment. ⤵️
