The parties are the problem. Every two years, the entire house, and 1/3 of the senate, are up for reelection. This means every two years, there is a new congress. The day after the election results are in, every lobbyist from every organization knows exactly which senators and representatives to target. They know who will chair, and be on, the committees relevant to their interests. This is because every senator & representative is a chess piece, whose rank is determined by a combination of party seniority & party platform loyalty. Term limits don't fix this. The solution is to turn those chamber member chess pieces into checkers, every member an equal, and take the parties out of the committee selection process. On Day One of a new congress going to session, each chamber makes all committee appointments via lottery. Every member, regardless of party affiliation, is eligible. Any member who declines serving on the committee they've been drawn for becomes ineligible for all committees during the two year duration of said congress. Committee chairs would be chosen by lottery within the committee. Declining a chairmanship carries no penalty. This accomplishes five important things: 1. Lobbyists don't know who to target. 2. Voters can vote for the best candidate, because without seniority, incumbency becomes much less relevant. 3. Third party members get to be a real voice for their constituencies, by having a chance to serve on, and chair, important committees. 4. Senators & representatives put the people of their states & districts ahead of their political parties. 5. Congress is restored to the people, and the parties are weakened. At this moment, America needs the republicans to be an 800 pound gorilla to stop the rampaging rabid 800 pound gorilla that the democrats have become, but when the dust settles, both monsters need to be caged.

If you haven’t heard, and even if you have, Jimmy Kimmel said this about Markwayne Mullin, former Senator from Oklahoma, and our newest Secretary of Homeland Security: “We have a plumber now protecting us from terrorism.” Apparently, there has been some backlash. Plumbers were offended, obviously, as were parents of plumbers, spouses of plumbers, children of plumbers, and millions of people who have had a plumber show up when they needed one. Comedians were also offended, (the funny ones, anyway,) along with a surprising number of terrorists - especially those with access to hot and cold running water. However, in spite of the ensuing kerfuffle, @jimmykimmel doubled down. “I’m not upset that the head of Homeland Security was a plumber,” he said, “I’m upset that he isn’t still a plumber." He further elucidated by adding, "I wouldn't put a plumber in charge of Homeland Security for the same reason I wouldn't call a five-star general to pull a rat out of my toilet, OK? We all have our areas of expertise.” Being offended is always a choice, and I don’t choose to be offended by a joke, even one that comes at the expense of the skilled tradespeople my foundation tries to elevate. But I am a tad butt hurt by the suggestion that skilled workers should never evolve into something new, and that competence is somehow limited to one vocation. Obviously, expertise and skill are important. If I need a new kidney, I’d prefer a doctor do the surgery, not a late-night talk show host. But if the doctor in question used to host a talk show, why would I hold that against him? Ten years ago, during one of the presidential debates, @MarcoRubio answered a workforce-related question by arguing that America needed to get shop class back into high schools. He concluded by saying, “What our country needs are more welders and fewer philosophers.” A lot of people on this page commented that Rubio and I were singing from the same hymnal, but in fact, we weren’t. At least not entirely. Because I don’t think the current shortage of welders has anything to do with an overabundance of philosophers. In fact, I think it’s a mistake to promote one vocation at the expense of the other. What we really need in this country, are more welders who can talk intelligently about Aristotle, and more philosophers who can run an even bead. More Generals, in other words, who can fix their own toilets, and more plumbers who can hold a powerful government job. This is what Mullin did. He was a private citizen who mastered an essential skill and then turned that skill into a multi-million-dollar company that employed a lot of people and served a lot of customers. That gave him the freedom to do other things with his life, including a career in public service which got him into Congress, where he’s spent the last eleven years doing whatever Congressmen do. Now, he has a very consequential position in the Cabinet of the current administration. Is that not the embodiment of the American Dream? I get that Jimmy Kimmel might have a problem with Mullin’s politics, but what possible objection could he have about the trajectory of his career, or his desire to do more than one thing with his life? The only sensible thing to do in the wake of a moment this tone deaf, is remind America that the skills gap is wide, and getting wider. The shortage of skilled tradespeople is now headline news and closing it is nothing less than a matter of national security. This year, my foundation has set aside $10 million dollars to help train the next generation of plumbers, and lots of other essential workers. I'm talking about hundreds of thousands of AI-proof, six figure jobs that don't require a four-year degree, waiting to be filled. The money is currently available to anyone who wants to master a useful skill at mikeroweworks.org. Apply today. As for those of you genuinely offended by Kimmel's comments, consider expressing your disappointment with a modest donation to mikeroweWORKS. Our work ethic scholarship is making a real difference, and your money will be well spent, I promise. The donate button is big and red and hard to miss, at mikeroweworks.org I’d love to chat but I’ve gotta pull a rat out of my toilet…

@TiffMoodNukes In MN, the "no kings" was more about DFLers protecting somali fraudsters and being anti-ICE. They've hated Trump ever since he defeated their "queen" Hillary back in 2016.

I saw the footage of the worldwide “No Kings protests”. Massive crowds consisting of Democrats, Independents, Libertarians, apolitical individuals, gathered to protest against Trump’s policies—mainly anti-war Understandably, it angered “MAGA” supporters to the point of vilifying, insulting them, and dismissing their movement as some sort of Soros funded protest. I don’t think that’s entirely true So, I did the opposite. I read dialogue on X, and went to other sites just to get a better understanding of what their grievances really were about Most just hate Trump in general. Some voted for Trump, felt betrayed and joined them in rebellion against the war and his policies. Some were there to protest against protected oligarchs in the Epstein files, who trafficked and raped children. Some were utter muttonheaded idiots who didn’t know why they were protesting. Some were just angry at government and decided to join We really need set anger aside and PAY ATTENTION TO ALL SIDES instead of just one I also looked at CPAC’s low attendance and messaging. I read posts from people who attended and said it was uninspiring and “demoralizing” All of these variables pose an existential threat to Republicans come November, making it easy for Democrats to take full control If Trump wants to avoid making history by being impeached for a third time by ‘demonic cock juggling thundercunts’, with a chance at removal, he’d better start firing some god awful bad advisors, incompetent appointees, and find a better strategy to unify the country If Republicans wish to remain in control, investing in a real spine with a real set of big hairy balls and lose the gaslighting and posturing IMO, both parties fucking suck ass, deserve to audited, dismantled and torched with the entire system God bless America 🇺🇸

@PurpleCactus45 @TheRabbitHole He's said he "hopes to die on Mars, just not on impact." So yes, intends to go to space, eventually. But he's got a lot more work ahead of him here on Earth to build the necessary infrastructure for a space-faring multi-planet humanity.

🙋‍♀️ Since it’s an estimated 50k that showed up today, will @KSTP @WCCO @FOX9 @kare11 @StarTribune issue a correction to their breathless coverage this week? Or… perhaps we can expect the same amount of hype for days for something like say a Vikings home game, since more people actually attend those? 🤔

Again, that is policy. A rational man would agree that physics is king. And on a plane, physics is what you and your crap weigh.

@kwick2k @redheadranting That is not true. Everything on a plane is based on weight. How you apportion the cost is policy. You + your luggage = your total weight. Anything over avg passenger weight plus luggage limit should be a fee

Why don't airlines incentivize checked bags? I would gladly check a bag, but it costs $35 each way. Then I get to the plane and they tell me I have to check my bag because there's not enough room for all the carry-ons. Make a checked bag free - like it used to be - so I can overpack again. I don't mind waiting at baggage claim if I can bring a few more pairs of shoes.

@furiadidonna @redheadranting A seat is a seat. Fatties should pay for a second seat when they can't fit in a single seat, and you don't get a discount for your seat even if you only need half of it.

@redheadranting I know. It’s ridiculous. Plus I think you ought to get a credit if you weigh less than the calculated average traveler. I am 4’10 and weigh <100 lbs and I am sick of subsidizing fatties while paying for checked bags. Plus, I can’t even reach the overhead bin. I said what I said.
