Here we go again: The @nytimes by my count has nine opinion pieces out today about the Trump run for president.

Once again, the political press called it wrong, a mirror image of 2016. At what point do newsrooms recognize that they need need to rethink their approach?

I asked @semaforben to speak with me about the misleading Chevron ad atop Semafor's new climate newsletter. He declined, directed me to a spokesperson, and the spokesperson ignored me. Is this what trustworthy journalism looks like? heated.world/p/semafors-inf…

No one is more deserving of a break than @Jon_Allsop, who has built the @CJR newsletter into the best of its kind in the world. You’ll still see us in your mailbox on occasion, and Jon will be back in the new year along with a new slate of @CJR newsletters. Now, rest.

SOME PERSONAL NEWS (sorta): Four years ago this week, I started writing @CJR's daily newsletter, The Media Today, four days a week (with @mathewi anchoring Thursdays). Today, that's ending—though I, and the newsletter, will be soon be back in a new form. cjr.org/the_media_toda…

@semafor You can’t really separate “The News” from, say, “Bill’s view.” Everything about the story — from the lead to how to write it to who to talk to — reflects Bill’s view. Pretending there’s a clean break between the two will only feed distrust.

Out of the gate, @semafor is solid: thoughtful, ambitious, expansive. That said, I think the “rethinking the article” business is a gimmick that will fade eventually. Not sure trust will be restored by telling people you’re giving them opinion in news stories. But let’s see.

A few highlights of John Bennet's rules for writing: "Cut the blah-blah." "Remember the banana rule: it’s never 'the elongated yellow fruit.'" "A piece with a nut graf is like a documentary with a voice-over—it means you haven’t got it all on film." cjr.org/special_report…
