I’ll break it down: Lexi did not go through the same traumas as Cassie. Cassie was sexualized, for example, while Lexi was not. The show did not really give us a full Lexi backstory, we only saw small glimpses through Cassie’s story, mainly tied to their father’s trauma. Cassie is a main character, which is why her story is highlighted. Lexi has always been more of a side character. If Sam wanted the audience to care more about her backstory instead of using her screen time to focus on humiliating Cassie in the play, we would have learned more about Lexi’s trauma, but we did not. Because of that, people see her as the sister who humiliated her own sister for entertainment, or as the friend who speaks to Rue in a cold, condescending way. Most people do not care for Lexi’s character because the show never really gave us a reason to.
