China's open source playbook is something else.
Chinese engineers just refactored OpenClaw in Go.
The result? PicoClaw.
It runs on a $10 Raspberry Pi instead of a $399 Mac mini.
Less than 10 MB of memory (99% smaller than OpenClaw).
400x faster startup time.
Boots in 1 second.
Free and open source.
But the impressive part isn't just the project itself.
It's the pattern behind it.
E. Desiré Nzengou described it perfectly as "The Chinese Recipe":
1. Reverse Engineer - Study exactly what competitors build. Take it apart. Understand how it works inside out.
2. Perfect It - Copy the foundation, then optimize it. Make the original version feel obsolete.
3. Open Source It - Release the code for free. This eventually breaks the competitor's business model.
4. Scale It - Push the technology to emerging markets where the massive user base is.
We saw it with DeepSeek.
We're seeing it again with PicoClaw.
