The issue is not whether man is a rational animal - that is the anthropological classification. The issue is ontological. C.S. Lewis wrote in chilling detail didn’t he about autonomous rationalism and its Promethean calculations. It’s what that rationality is for and whether it is received or ‘self-grounding’.

The "leave no man behind" doctrine is actually a strategic weakness disguised as a virtue. Name one other military on earth that destroys 6 aircraft and fights a ground battle inside a sovereign nation to recover one pilot. You can't. Because no other military confuses tactical sentimentality with strategic logic. Soldiers serve the mission. The mission doesn't serve the soldier. The US has now established that Iran can shoot down an F-15, then watch America spend $300M and expose Delta Force trying to prove it didn't happen. That's not military doctrine. That's politics with weapons. A military that cannot accept the risk of loss cannot win wars. The US hasn't won one since 1945.

I served, we were explicitly taught what orders were lawful and unlawful, and I was a witness in a court martial based on it.

I want to express my deep gratitude for all of the brave servicemembers involved in rescuing two F-15E crew members in Iran. These operations are incredibly difficult, and the safe return of both crew members is a powerful testament to their training and the expertise of all the U.S. military units involved in this search and recovery. The President, via the Sec of Defense, can deny promotions at will and unilaterally dictate who is sent to the Senate for promotions.
This idea that inferior officers in the chain of command can refuse to obey such an order is absolute nonsense and very clearly grounds for removal.

I will point out that whenever Thomas Jefferson wrote “Open the Fuckin’ Strait, you crazy bastards," he did not capitalize "Fuckin'" and he spelled it fully out, as in "fucking."
Otherwise, precise historical continuity.
