These are the first hot takes reaching us from people who were in the room. While the new tracks are hard to pin down on first listen — they blur into one another and the hooks don’t land immediately — the verdict relayed to us is overwhelmingly positive: darker, edgier, dance-driven, with Madonna’s vocals sitting in a lower register, and unmistakably different. One track stands out above the rest: “Danceteria”, the song scoring the film’s bathroom scene. As it was described to us, it’s a spoken-word track in the vein of her own “Vogue”, with a distinctly queer club sensibility — and some are already telling us it could become one of their all-time favourites in Madonna’s entire catalogue. The title nods to Danceteria, the legendary New York club where Madonna got her start in the early ’80s.
