A South African-born billionaire built his entire American empire after leaving South Africa, then turns around and lectures other nations about culture, borders, and who should stay where. So let me get this straight: migration is bad when ordinary people do it, but visionary when billionaires do it? When poor people move, it is called a crisis. When rich people move, it is called ambition. When workers cross borders, politicians panic. When billionaires cross borders, magazines put them on the cover. Maybe the real issue was never immigration. Maybe the issue is who gets permission to be called an “expat,” a “founder,” or a “genius” instead of a migrant. Because if everyone should stay where they were born, somebody should tell the South African billionaire living in America.
