But it could create a basic framework for recording important demographic and medical information, identifying patterns, and reducing the extent to which individuals are left to rely on blind trust. #fertilitylaw #donorregistry

A registry would not solve every problem. It would not prevent someone from lying. It would not stop donations taking place outside clinics, whether through artificial insemination or intercourse. It would not stop people from traveling outside the country to bypass Canadian law.

Canada does not have a national registry for sperm and egg donors (although Quebec has had its own since June). That means donor-conceived people's ability to access information about their donor depends on private arrangements, luck and a lot of trust.

@sciencegirl There was less pressure for people to alter their faces with injections and surgery. Looking back at the Spice Girls, they seem so normal by today’s standards. I worry that more and more people will have a harder time loving themselves when the norm is to look artificial.

Jewish homes, schools, and places of worship are under constant threat in Canada. Our Jewish neighbours must feel safe to worship, gather, raise their children, and live freely and proudly in this country. We must root out this scourge of antisemitism. Those responsible for this violence must be found and brought to justice.

Synagogues being shot at, again. Who could have possibly seen this coming after years of governments at every level doing absolutely nothing while hate festered openly in our streets for more than two years? Inaction is a choice & it has consequences. Restore safety. Do your jobs. Find these thugs before someone gets hurt. Wake up 🇨🇦

Family caregivers should be at the table whenever policy or legislative decisions about mental health care are made. I've spoken to individuals with mental illness who feel the same (& who wish their family was not excluded from their care while they were in psychosis).

One of the consequences of untreated mental illness that I've seen many times over the past year is women who are unwell becoming victims of sex trafficking. 13 years of advising family caregivers and only in the past year am I hearing about this risk.

I critique our health care system plenty, but today I have praise. A pharmacist just wrote a prescription for one of my kids, saving a trip to the doctor's office. #ONpoli #healthcare 👏👏👏

How do you introduce yourself to the mother that gave up a son for adoption as a daughter? My adoption records get unsealed next week. I could not sleep last night thinking about it. This all just spilled out of me around 3am. My hope is she's enough like me to prefer emotionally open communication. Hey! So, really no non-awkward way to do this, so I’ll just say it. I’m reaching out because my adoption records were unsealed, and your name was given to me as my biological mother. Sorry, it’s weird for me too. I’m not writing with huge expectations or pressure. But you are a part of my life I’ve wanted to understand for a long time, and I didn’t want to wait any longer to connect. A bit about me. I live in Massachusetts and work in politics and technology. I’ve been married to a wonderful man for seventeen years. I’ve done really well! I have a great house, a cool car collection and my work takes me around the world doing media. I love to run, and I’m ridiculously tall and thin. (Thanks for those genes!) Guess there’s no way to introduce myself without explaining why I’m not your son. I knew from a very young age that I should have been a girl, and I transitioned as an adult. My adoptive family didn’t take any of this well, and they did disown me. I have not seen them for 20 years. I share it simply because it’s part of my story and I want to be honest from the start. I also want to say, I’m not angry at you for giving me up. I’ve read enough about the pressures on mothers of this era. You could not have known what I would be facing, and although emotionally I had little support, the financial security of that home did give me the skills and education to have a successful life. If you’d be open to exchanging a few emails or messages, I think we’d both have fun! I mean, what have you been up to for 48 years? Have to be stories! Either way, I hope you’re well. I want you to know I’ve built a life and I’m doing okay. I like to think the spark in me that made me able to survive difficult things came from you. Even though I don’t know you yet, I do love you, and I’m proud to be your child. I hope we can speak soon. Brianna
