Learning about biology as a young person you hear the "they used to think most of the genome was junk DNA, wasn't that narrowminded" thing and shake your head and then you start doing biology and spend all your time wrestling junk DNA

@yoonchaand Find a recent paper (or review!!) related to your topic of interest, then find a part in the conclusion/discussion where they’re like “we still don’t know [x]/ are uncertain if [x], but…” and there’s your gap. I don’t know if that works for literature research, though….

i think i will die finding a research gap. why has everybody always been thinking and looking for answers and observing? could you not have left some for students to figure out too?? i have no questions left fucking unanswered because someone wrote a paper on it in, like, 1973.

My impression of Da Pitt (which i started last week) is that it is very watchable and the characters are great, but the dialogue is written with all the subtlety of a thousand hammers

@uskglasses Oh yeah. In hindsight the book was fine/entertaining enough, but I was genuinely, like, disgusted at the time haha, especially reading everyone’s glowing reviews online — I was like “want better for yourselves people !! Sci fi can be so much more!!!!” but yeah, like, kinda on me
