Small businesses usually feel economic shifts first. The latest data from the National Federation of Independent Business shows optimism dipping, even as profit trends hit a four-year high. That tension reflects how small businesses actually operate: things can be working today while the future still feels uncertain. Small businesses don’t need financing eventually. They need it now! nfib.com/news/press-rel…

Here are 3 founder parenting tips for my fellow parents out there. Each could take as little as 5 min or can become a whole hour activity: 1. After dinner and one-on-one, and make together a list of "Things I'm good at". Hang it in their room at eye level. This will make them proud daily. 2. Another list to work on with them and hang on the wall: "Things to do when I'm bored". This has been super helpful as we (almost fully) disengaged from screens. 3. Finally, a list of "good deeds to do" (Mitzvahs if you're Jewish). We often talk about what mitzvahs we did today and try to plan for the future. My kids are 9, 7, 5 and each of the above has become an important part of their lives (and ours). Happy to share more on the logistics etc if anyone has q's.

@kleinerperkins was the first venture capital firm I ever heard of, when I read the Google book as a kid growing up in India. It had a constant halo in the back of my mind, even though I didn't know much about technology or investing at the time. I naturally jumped at the chance to apply to the @kp_fellows program in college and was fortunate to be a part of the 2014 engineering class. Things came full circle when I joined the investment team in May 2022. Now, I'm looking forward to serving as a partner where I'll continue to invest in early stage enterprise AI across applications, infrastructure and cyber 🫡

Whop just crossed $2B in GTV and $142 mil in ARR. Gen Z doesn’t want traditional jobs. Whop is becoming the backbone for how they earn. I’m slightly biased… I invested in @whop at a $3M valuation in 2021 and remain the largest shareholder outside the founders. Even from that seat, I still don’t fully understand how Gen Z makes a living. Most investors are asleep. They’ll notice when ARR goes from $142M toward $1B within 18 months. The CEO Steven is one of the most naturally talented leaders of his age group. A world class engineer with unusual range, speed, and instinct. He has the kind of raw, unstructured talent you can’t manufacture: randomly insane piano skills but no Ivy League polish. Whop is a hidden gem… a generational company built by generational founders.

An exciting moment during our Q3 earnings live this week. We still have some time before Jason begins his voyage into retirement, but I’m thrilled for @shiv_verma1 to take the helm. Shiv is an exceptional operator who truly lives Robinhood’s values. Onward and upward 🔥

IN NEWS: @GustoHQ unveils new cash flow tools at its live Showcase in San Francisco to help small businesses make payroll on time. “When I speak with small businesses, the hardest moments are when they cannot make payroll. It is not that they do not make enough money. It is all about cash flow. When money comes in and when money goes out.” –@tomerlondon (Co-Founder and CPO, Gusto): Gusto is launching features to help teams make payroll on time and smooth timing gaps between expenses and receivables.

Thrilled to share that I’ve joined @ThriveCapital as a Venture Partner, where I will be helping to build and invest in companies that can push the boundaries of science and technology.  I’ve known many of the Thrive team for years and have always admired their warmth, intellect, optimism, and boundless ambition to be the most meaningful partner to founders across every stage and sector.  My work has been guided by the belief that alpha is always found at the frontier, with AI starting to achieve human-level performance in generating independent work products, robotics transforming the physical world, biotechnology becoming engineerable, and energy abundance within reach…  This is an incredible time to invent and build new companies and I’m excited to get going. I’m grateful for the last few years investing at NFDG across seed to growth. Oh - and @arcinstitute will still be my main gig! My science isn’t going anywhere :)

There are two ways a small business can find itself -- via sales which payment processors solve for and via debt for which there is @ParafinHQ
The Peel@ThePeelPod

I asked @llihas why most traditional banks don’t lend money to small businesses: “The biggest problem in small business credit in the US is it’s mostly consumer products masquerading as small business products. Banks and credit cards rely on personal credit scores and require personal collateral, even if someone is borrowing for business purposes. Meanwhile, if you look at the business performance, there’s many reasons you should extend credit to them. This tends to deter women and minority owned, or newer businesses like Etsy or Amazon merchants. Banks have archaic means and methods for doing this. And we @ParafinHQ think it can be reinvented.”
