@legalstyleblog @UKPoliticsLive I’m pretty sure it was just assent. But I’m also pretty sure you could make the argument that it meets the test in the eIDAS Regulation (for example) as a signature in a given fact pattern…

@UKPoliticsLive I will check later but it might have been a statute of frauds thing requiring writing, but I think it was a formation thing so just evidence of assent

@JasonKPargin I hated the opening to this season. Completely out of character for Reacher. And utterly preposterous, even for that show. Within 5 minutes? Really? In that Podunk town? Sure. I doubt I'll finish watching.

I love how Reacher has 1980s show plotting where he’ll just be browsing at a thrift store in a sleepy small town and suddenly a totally unrelated hostage standoff randomly occurs ten feet away on the sidewalk. Like sure, why not, go Jack Reach those fools

@legalstyleblog New Zealand - which codified criminal law - codified the year and a day rule, and didn't get rid of it until 2019.

@drdeanknight Just to avoid talking about the AI Act again – the Gambling Regulation Act 2024. Sweeping reform of 1950s era legislation! Not modelled on a UK or EU law! New regulator! Interesting and vast delegations!

British, Irish and Canadian friends: If you had a captive -- foreign but comparative-savvy -- audience for 5min, what would be the single legal development from your space over the last year that you would share with them? 🤔

@KathrynTewson @CimphonyAI My favourite part about this is that it contains a commitment to comply with the GDPR, regardless of whether the company is established in the EEA, and not limiting its scope to EEA data subjects. Personal data rights for all!

@legalstyleblog The expert witness circuit for such matters may provide a welcome late-career option for professionals in the industry…

@BohdanWidla @technollama That’s what I figure. Then again, the ICO ain’t the AEPD! I hope they issued a privacy statement, conducted a DPIA and have maintained a record of processing activities. Otherwise straight to jail.

I adore the inventiveness of my students. They trained an AI with my voice using class recordings. Loved it, although I hate my voice. Interesting hypothetical legal question here. Could I object to this in the UK? I actually don't think so.

@Haimonaetc Some of us have highly skilled immigrant ancestors. One of mine was a Crown translator in Kororāreka in the 1830s, imagine if they’d had anything less than perfect accuracy!
