This is called a Masters in Landscape Architecture and it’s great

@yachtdestroyer @wingedisis @sarajcarr Central Park/Seneca Village? Iirc Olmsted’s plan erased the community at the behest of the state.
English

@wingedisis @sarajcarr Is there anyone in LA/planning who's theorized about how when you get contacted for a public project you basically become an arm of the state? Just finished a master's and tried to talk to students about this wrt some stuff happening here in Germany but it didn't really hit
English

@sarajcarr Adding on this, let’s not forget the expectations of design teaching to higher Ed. The shift away from teaching design to developing research. The resulting focus or desire to hire specialist instead of generalist has also had an impact on the ability of others to design

@LangeAlexandra 1st you make your transportation system, and then your transportation system makes you...

@sevensixfive The sound of transistor radios you'd build from scratch. Audio quality so irritable it pinches your ear drums and scratches your eyes...

@maxyamp @fasc1nate There are 2, 3 standing houses in the legal limits- but no zip code. No zip code, no census?
English

@fasc1nate I thought maybe it was a typo, supposed to say five-hundred or five-thousand.. but nope, it's actually around 5 (4, to be precise?)
Maybe someone was pregnant at the time of the census but they can't be sure of the status of the baby 😢

Centralia, Pennsylvania, a former coal mining town, has been burning for almost 60 years.
In 1962, the town council decided to burn a landfill, unaware it connected to underground mine shafts. This ignited a coal seam, which continues to burn. After spending $7 million trying to put out the fire, Pennsylvania gave up in the 1990s.
Despite the dangers, around five residents still live there. With coal supplies under the town, the fire could burn for another 250 years.

@JenniferEditor @theprovenwinner Approx 35-40% of HS’s don’t have calc (and imagine where they are/who they serve), it seems to me part of the STEM status is advocating for that 35-40. If we want a diverse profession, it means we give them resources that are more than introductions- think academic tools
English

@JenniferEditor @theprovenwinner But has that k-12 impact been demonstrated in “allied professions” as sincere introduction? For me this is a HUGE issue. If we’re really trying to reach those people we need to advocate for them in those classrooms.

@sevensixfive I stopped after the Churchill quote and the estimate about the amount of time spent in buildings…

Absolute reactionary pseudoscience.

An eye-tracking study by Brandon Ro, architecture professor at @UVU, revealed a "subliminal and embodied preference" for traditional over modernist federal architecture among participants. Watch his presentation youtube.com/watch?app=desk…

@theprovenwinner @mollymehaffy MEANWHILE- we’re rushing towards stable engineering solutions- cuz industry

@theprovenwinner Actually a typo- field, not filed…
