Contrary to the picture, we did not clicker train cats.. but we did finally demonstrate faster learning and improved task acquisition in clicker trained dogs, which comes as no surprise to most but validates what many trainers know and shows benefits for detection dog training

After two years in the making, it’s finally out! It was an honor to bring together experts in the field to provide deep dives into all aspects of canine olfaction science. Very grateful to all of the contributors that made this possible. link.springer.com/book/10.1007/9…

@lu_la Very cool study. I've heard that task-oriented assessments tend to be more stable than the average temperament testing that a shelter might do. Is there validity to that assessment? Last time I investigated, there wasn't a ton of recent research on reliability of testing.

In our latest study we followed up with a cohort of candidate detection dogs 2 yrs after completing training. We found that puppy testing @ 3 mo was predictive of current working status, & longitudinal stability of certain traits from 3 mo to 3 yrs 🐾 🐾 tinyurl.com/mvxa9w2p

@CarlosEAlvare17 Oops, could’ve swore it was in that paper. I’ll have to look for it, but we have observed higher detection abilities in the GWP cross (which is why we introduced the breed) and also more fearfulness

@lu_la Thanks, Lucia. Are you referring to the discussion of refs. of Labs vs German Shepherds? I didn't see discussion of your Labs vs GWHPs or LabXGWHP mix.

@lu_la Interesting to see a couple of graduated dogs were withdrawn early, but more so that two dogs originally eliminated received remedial training and went on to successful careers. Are there any published observations about differences of Labs, GWHPs, & their mix as detection dogs?
