@lunar_rish @JacksonBluSky @Lewis_Bollard i do think it’s funny that they’re going to put the pigs in a depression cell and try and give them drugs to fix it when the solution is obviously just letting them out of the depression cell. some kinda message here.

In 2023, Chinese researchers set out to create a 'pig depression model' — a way to reliably induce depression in pigs for medical research. The researchers (Yang et al, 2023) confined pigs so tightly they couldn't move and left them in a dark environment without food or water for 24 hours. It worked: the pigs exhibited anhedonia — an inability to experience pleasure — along with anxiety and reduced appetite. The researchers concluded they'd found a promising way to induce depression in pigs. Their inspiration? Factory farms. They tried out the total restraint after noting that sows, confined in gestation crates and kept chronically hunger, "have been found to be in a depression-like state." The main difference? After 24 hours, the researchers let the study pigs out. On factory farms they never do. Photo: Balvik C. / We Animals

@JacksonBluSky @Lewis_Bollard would you rather see new antidepressants invented to save the lives of your loved ones or have no pigs ever tested on? btw your opinion is 100% irrelevant and you are a hypocrite if you eat pork

@Lewis_Bollard Retarded researchers. No one needs a research to tell torture could induce depression.

@SpoonMan6900 @EmT58777 @Dexerto yeah thats why Taco Bell lets you substitute beef for beans in every single item. Indians fucking love this stuff. this isn't some kind of theoretical argument, you can just ask Indian people what their favorite fast food is

When Willa Staats and her brother inherited their family's East Austin home and adjacent lot, they expected a windfall. Instead, they were hit with a $48,000 property tax bill, nearly 90% higher than what their father had paid and more than half of Staats' salary. As a longtime homeowner, their father had benefited from a homestead exemption capping annual tax increases at 10%. But when the property passed to his heirs, the taxable value reset to market rate, right at the peak of Austin's pandemic-era boom.

@variedints @fordoglunk if there are multiple dimensions of goodness then its possible for one person to be the least good in all of those dimensions without any one person being best in all dimensions

@fordoglunk Since there are finitely many girls in America, there is either a best one or a tie for best. (This assumes that goodness is a measurable quantity)

Lmao that would work with convection but would absolutely suck with radiation on vacuum. The radiators are in the LOS OF EACH OTHER why do you think radiators in real spacecraft are arranged in flat panels? How did you even model this before manufacturing?

Once again, a woman saying "I was sexually assaulted" IS evidence of sexual assault. The number of people who don't know something as basic as "the definition of 'evidence'" is highly distressing.
God@TakingHisTime

@dilanesper I’m sorry. That’s not evidence of sexual assault.

@toko_testudo @captgouda24 in my experience, LLMs are crazy good at taking rough sketches of ideas pertaining to one field and connecting you with much more rigorous and fleshed out ideas in unrelated fields, improving interdisciplinary crosstalk. you simply can't know everything in every field!

@captgouda24 Is this bait? Can you please elaborate? Using an LLM for anything but low level grammar and spelling issues offloads cognitive work making you dumber and a worse academic. Same applies to reading papers.

Being unwilling to use LLMs in your academic work simply means that you believe your work is without value. Why study it, then? And more importantly — why should the working class fund your leisure?
