Back on La Palma 🇮🇨 for the 4th time in 12 months, this time to study the 2021 #Tajogaite fall deposits during a @LMU_Volc field practical. Lesson 1: Textbooks aren't always precise! "Fall deposits drape topography" they say.... 🌋🖖🏼

@VOLCAPSE @IGN @involcan @CSIC Thanks Tom, I agree this would have been good. I did reach out to a few folks in Oct., but they were understandably too busy. Hats off to @IGNSpain, @INVOLCAN, @CSIC and @IGME1849 for the fantastic work on site. I hoped to help by highlighting why this eruption is important.

@ma_longpre Well written but I have mixed feelings with this work, Marc. Why not invite Spanish colleagues at @IGN, @involcan or @CSIC to author such an article?

@M_W_Forster It does appear that Cumbre Vieja has grown at such rate throughout its shield-building stage...If you are interested to read more, we discuss these numbers in this paper: sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

@M_W_Forster That would make sense. In turn, the long repose time, long run-up time and lack of shallow magma reservoir may ultimately all be tied to Cumbre Vieja’s low magma supply rate, which is only about a hundredth of Kilauea’s over timescales of centuries.
