@naomicfisher Also, it turns the process into a series of programs to be implemented with fidelity, rather than a coherent instructional experience

Education needs to learn the lessons of medicine. We need highly skilled professionals who are empowered to make individual and responsive choices for the children they teach. Otherwise we risk failing a generation. Evidence-based should never mean one size fits all. 9/

Should we systematise education as much as possible because that’s more efficient? Is that what the evidence suggests? Here’s the problem with that (and with over-extending the evidence base) 1/

@edu_tuan We give our 10 year old $3 per week. I was thinking of moving to a larger amount but per month and he has to pay for stuff we would buy

Chores are fairly basic: keep your room clean, vacuum the kitchen on the weekend, and help with the dishes (mainly to unload them when they are dry). So far, I'm getting $5/week, $25/week ($100/month), and $90/week. All of which are much more than what I got.

My 12-year old is wanting to negotiate her weekly allowance. What is a reasonable weekly rate in your opinion, and why?

@DaphneMPenn I often say I am in academia because it is the closest to being a student all the time. The best classes are when I am also learning from the students to see an idea or reading in a new way.

I’ve also recently come to the realization that I am a professional student. I’d rather be learning than doing almost anything else. At this point, it is what it is. My plan is to direct that energy into becoming a better teacher and writer—my other two passions.

I’ve learned that my toxic trait is that I love being in school. Since finishing my PhD, I’ve explored taking computer science courses at the local CC, part-time law school, and a woodworking apprenticeship. Lots to process here.
