Scheana Shay recently shared what happened when she ran into ex John Mayer last year. In an interview with PEOPLE, Scheana — who had a brief romance with John Mayer in 2008 — reflected on their run-ins over the years. She said their first encounter in a while took place two years ago at ChainFEST, a gourmet food festival in Los Angeles. “I saw him, and I awkwardly give him a hug, like, ‘Hey,’ and then made a joke like, ‘Oh, we should get a photo.’ And he was like, ‘No.’ And I was like, ‘I was kind of kidding.’ But yeah, that was awkward,” she told PEOPLE. When she saw John Mayer again at the same event in 2024, Scheana approached it differently. “I didn’t even go in for the hug,” she recalled. “He went out for a handshake. I’m like, ‘Well, this is awkward, too.’” In her memoir My Good Side, Scheana details meeting Mayer in 2008 while working at his birthday party, during a time he was dating Jennifer Aniston.
