Clip of Rogers vs Bruno from our MLG Film Aug 1962. This is the third and final bout, Bruno can't continue after missing a dropkick. NOTE to Twitter or anyone else, this film is owned by me, not WWE. Nice note though 😄 14,000 in the seats see Rogers get the win at 12:31.

One of the best matchups of the Mid-Atlantic era in Toronto was Ric Flair vs Harley Race over the NWA Title. Their battles at Maple Leaf Gardens were the epitome of professional wrestling at its best and averaged 15,000 fans a bout. Science & Violence! Taken at the November 15 1981 card celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Wrestling at MLG. 🙏

Makin' towns. May 13, 1985 fell on a Monday and it was time to catch the #GreyHound to head to the #BrantfordCivicCenter for a night of World Wrestling Federation TV. Not sure who I got pounded by that night or whether I caught the last bus home or had to wait until the AM.

It’s said, when the Maple Leafs train pulled into the station, the rush & demand for Foster’s autograph was more than for any Maple Leafs player. Here’s a beautiful tray given to Hewitt May 1964. @oldpappy59 @leswilliams2 @homeice @ComEnjoylife @GreatNthRoad @hockey_vintage

#OnThisDay in 1923, Foster Hewitt broadcasted the first ever hockey game live via radio! His was the most famous voice in Canada for nearly half a century, a man who brought ice hockey to every Canadian. Foster Hewitt created the gondola, the broadcast position high above the ice. He gave the world the term, "He shoots! He scores!" and gave the country the most famous five words in hockey history: "Henderson has scored for Canada!" Foster was a champion boxer during his university days but after graduating he pursued broadcasting. On March 23, 1923, he made history at Mutual Street Arena by broadcasting the first ever hockey game live via radio, a match featuring Parkdale and Kitchener. Foster Hewitt was awarded the Order of Sport and inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame in 1975. 📷: Order of Sport Collection, @CanMusHistory

One of my favorites of the Toronto program covers from our era....Coming up on 45 years since Andre vs Hogan MLG March 1981. Happy Sunday ! -AC The Battle Of The Giants! Stranglehold March 29 1981 Andre The Giant vs Hulk Hogan — Here Tonight! By Jerry McNamara When Andre the Giant meets Hulk Hogan tonight, wrestling fans will see another chapter in a saga of blood and brawn that has excited audiences in Shea Stadium, Madison Square Garden, and The Omni in Atlanta.Hulk Hogan has the strength and skill to test Andre’s ability to the fullest. Look for Andre to use headbutts, hammerlocks, and kicks to the body. Andre may even use an atomic drop, a big splash, or a spectacular vertical suplex. You can count on Hogan to attempt to use leg drops, elbow drops, and the “Hogan Hammer” — a devastating clothesline that has taken out many lesser opponents. In previous matches, the intense rivalry between Hulk and Andre has resulted in bloodshed and hatred. What will happen tonight? “I am not afraid of Hulk Hogan,” said Andre. “And even if he hurts me, I will destroy him. Hatred is not good, and I do not try to harm other wrestlers, but no matter what happens in the ring, I will injure Hulk Hogan to teach him that I am better and stronger. What he has done to other wrestlers, he will not do to me. The bully will be taught that what he has done to others can be done to him.” Hogan was equally confident. “I am going to use my great agility and well-coordinated body to humiliate, annihilate and slaughter that big freak. He doesn’t belong in the same ring with me, and when he gets hit by the Hogan Hammer he will fall down in a bleeding heap!” Andre the Giant is a proud man who cannot suffer insults quietly. In this rematch, Hogan may have to contend with an enraged giant intent upon inflicting serious bodily harm. The record of Andre is sufficiently impressive to worry Hulk Hogan. Toronto fans are going to witness one of the best wrestling battles in the “War of the Giants!”

The beautiful AWA title belt on display at Maple Leaf Gardens in 1982. Some familiar Toronto history in the photo. In the uncropped pic the legendary Norm Kimber is watching over it at the announcers table ringside. That table the same one used since the 1950s. The NWA ring apron was used from 1978 and after by the WWF for a time and an iconic sight from our TV-the belt is in front of the W in NWA. Taken with my trusty Konica 35 at Nick Bockwinkel's 16th & final AWA Title defense (vs Angelo Mosca) at MLG in April 1982...🙏

70 years ago today March 15 1956 hometown hero Whipper Watson defeated World champion Lou Thesz at Maple Leaf Gardens to begin an 8 month run. First of four NWA title changes in Toronto followed by Dick Hutton over Thesz (1957), Thesz over Buddy Rogers (1963), and Harley Race over Terry Funk (1977).

Classic photo by Roger Baker....The occasion was the 30th Anniversary of Frank Tunney as a promoter. The location was the Hot Stove Lounge at Maple Leaf Gardens which was once the space that the wrestling office occupied -to 1963. They were expecting 50 people for a luncheon but over 150 showed up and stayed well past dinner and into the early hours. Frank a well respected and loved Torontonian....In the photo almost 100 years of Toronto wrestling office service. Frank Tunney 1931-1983. Wrestler/TV host Lord Layton 1950-1977, and ring announcer Jerry Hiff 1955-1973. Also the great portraits of Tunney & Whipper Watson that adorned the walls of the Hot Stove for many years. That same Tunney pic has an esteemed spot in it's well deserved home of Toronto memorabilia via Mr @BarryHatchet .. -AC

Our great pal @BarryHatchet with the great Ted Dibiase who regrettably never appeared here in the NWA days. He was just a magazine star to us, a perennial top challenger for the NWA Title. I remember the first time I saw some St Louis footage with DiBiase he was awesome. He did show up here with WWF in the later 80s...Cool pic!

Happy 72nd birthday to @MDMTedDiBiase! Everybody’s got a price (cue sinister laugh!) 💵💵💵💵💵
