The Trump Administration is so corrupt that it would make a Chicago alderman blush. From a $400 million Qatari plane to a $1.7 million no bid contract for Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Reflecting Pool guy to the world’s most corrupt crypto startup in World Liberty Financial, there’s not a day that goes by where Trump’s administration doesn’t take public service and turn it into private gain.

Someone in my replies suggested an Andrew Benintendi for Luis Castillo trade and I can’t stop thinking about it. The Mariners have too many pitchers but not enough bats. The White Sox are the opposite. Both are free agents after next season. Makes sense for both sides.

IL didn't get blindsided by data center demand - we courted it! And now we're un-courting it by blaming them for rising prices... Deeper issue: retiring coal/gas on political timeline (under CEJA) without adequate firm replacement. Wind/solar sans storage doesn't solve that. You can see per chart that the share of Illinois' power capacity mix that's baseload is on a steepening, policy-driven decline - down 24% from peak through 2024. After the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA) passed in 2021, baseload is poised to fall from 82.8% to 67.8% in just 8 years, a noticeably faster rate than the pre-CEJA path. Less firm capacity at peak as demand climbs from electrification of the economy is foundation for pricing issues. Let the tech companies come here and build their own power sources! Will help stabilize grid over time.

This isn’t a higher bar for data centers. Given competition, it’s effectively a barrier. These objections are based on outdated assumptions. It’s like the More Perfect Union propagandists are now governing. Populism may be politically useful, but will prove economically harmful. Repeating what I posted Friday: Tech companies won't waste time with us given these new uncertainties. Investment will flow to more receptive states. Further, concerns about data centers are largely overstated. Water is recycled in closed loop system and tech firms are now building and financing their own power. Unfortunately, this is pandering to a very progressive and uninformed electorate and will cost the state in potential jobs, investment and tax revenue. It is also extremely short sighted. If we want new and cleaner power generation, we should welcome tech firms investing in data centers with open arms. Much better for them to finance the new buildout of solar, battery storage and potentially nuclear - as they have pledged to do - than have ratepayers do so. And as the AI models and compute infrastructure get more efficient, it's possible that in the future data centers will end up having excess power (due to efficiency gains) that can go to the rest of grid - driving down longer-term consumer energy inflation. At a minimum, we’d be the beneficiaries of key infrastructure upgrades and rising local tax revenue longer term.

Just to remind everyone that if Indiana were ceded these counties we’d immediately have to cough up a net $2 bill a year to replace the flow of taxes from Chicagoland to these places. And we’d immediately join WV and MI at the bottom of the economic and education barrell.
Ken Colbert@KColbertReport

INDIANA ANNEXATION OF ILLINOIS COUNTIES The one-sided exploratory effort by Indiana to potentially absorb up to 33 specific rural and conservative-leaning counties from Illinois along or near their shared border continues to be discussed. This stems from frustration in downstate Illinois over Chicago-dominated politics, taxes, and policies. Here’s the current status as of June 2026:Background Starting around 2020, a growing number of Illinois counties (eventually 33) held non-binding advisory referendums asking voters whether they wanted to explore leaving Illinois and forming a new state (sometimes called “New Illinois” or similar movements). These counties are mostly in central and southern Illinois. In 2025, Indiana Republican lawmakers (led by House Speaker Todd Huston) responded by passing House Enrolled Act 1008. It created the Indiana-Illinois Boundary Adjustment Commission to study whether those counties could be transferred to Indiana instead of becoming their own state. It was signed into law by Indiana Gov. Mike Braun and took effect July 1, 2025. Indiana appointed 6 members; Illinois was invited to appoint up to 5 but declined (no companion legislation passed in Illinois, and Gov. J.B. Pritzker called the whole thing a “stunt”). The commission’s first (and so far only public) meeting was October 22, 2025, in Terre Haute. It heard testimony from residents who want to leave Illinois (though not all supported joining Indiana specifically). They planned a follow-up meeting for “early 2026” but no further meetings or final report have been publicly announced or reported since. Current Status (June 2026): The commission remains in existence but has made no formal recommendation yet. No boundary change has occurred or been voted on. Even if the commission recommends a transfer, it would require: 1) Approval by both Indiana and Illinois legislatures/governors (Illinois has shown zero interest). 2) Approval by the U.S. Congress (required under the U.S. Constitution for any state boundary change). Legal experts and officials on both sides describe it as a long-shot symbolic gesture rather than a realistic path to annexation. fox32chicago.com/news/indiana-a… @MicahBeckwith @LGMicahBeckwith @GovBraun @SenatorBanks @indianagop @INGOP @INFREEDOMCAUCUS @Trevor4indiana @HeritageIndiana @Indy_reporter_ @indystar @JayStarkeySen6 @Trevor4indiana
