The sin tax lobby spoke to Parliament today about how above inflation hikes in excise taxes are driving illicit trade and damaging economic growth. It is a serious problem. 🔴 But I raised concerns about dirt on the hands of some of those pointing fingers. Specifically, British American Tobacco and their legitimacy to speak on illicit trade given the serious allegations around abuse of state security and bribery they’ve faced. Twice they avoided my question - with an assist at 5:25 😂

Is Songezo Zibi complacent with corruption or just lazy? The DA is investing real muscle into PIC oversight. We want to know: - What happened at Daybreak? - Why are senior PIC staff constantly being implicated in scandals? - How do we better protect pension funds? But we’re running into Songezo Zibi. He allowed the PIC to courier their documents. Sat on them for a month and denied MPs requests for access.. When he finally obtained an electronic version and gave us access today, it turns out he didn’t even check that the documents were what we asked for – they’re not. Investigations and key updates are missing - the PIC even responded to the wrong court case. 🥊 Despite Rise issuing statements that include unfounded personal attacks against me, It’s not my intention to fight like it’s the UFC. I have real oversight to do.
