Someone hacked into our district so we’ve been without infinite campus for almost two weeks now. 😩 No way to take attendance reliably, check student schedules, contact parents or put any grades in the grade book.

My roommate teaches film at university. She has to turn in her syllabus in Dec for the class she’ll teach Spring sem. The goal is that no changes are made to the syllabus. This is WILD to me! I know HS ≠ university but I am constantly adjusting my plans based on student needs.

Our school is having an issue with our Rohingya-speaking students because we have no way to communicate with their parents. Rohingya is mostly a spoken language so we can't use google translate and the district has no interpreters who speak Rohingya. Anyone else deal with this?

My newcomers are mostly Spanish-speaking and it wasn’t until a week into our trig unit that I realized when I write “theta” on the board to give them the name of the symbol they were all reading it as “teta”. 😂

I’m teaching newcomers this year for the first time and yes it’s hard but oh my gosh I’ve never had such sweet students. Today we came back from a week of fall break and several high schoolers gave me a hug and told me they’d missed me. 🥹

@mathwithmstong Love this idea!! I’ll have to think about how it could apply. In advisory class we do a weekly career/university planning lesson & the other days we have 50 minutes to do “connection circles” where kids are supposed to reply to a ? but nobody says anything and it’s so painful.

I need advice on how to build community in a Grade 9 advisory class where nobody wants to talk. (Like I give them a would you rather ? to talk about with their partners and the room is silent.) Our most successful activity so far has been scattergories which they thought was fun.
