People have been saying that conservatives are the "stupid party" since J.S Mill. Russell Kirk in The Conservative Mind dedicated the entire volume to rebutting the Mill claim. Whats interesting is why conservative politics attracts a kind of anti-intellectualism...

Hundreds of millions of people throughout the world are immersed in extreme poverty. Yet, disproportionate wealth remains in the hands of a few. It is an unjust scenario, in the face of which we cannot fail to question ourselves and commit to change things. There is no lack of resources at the root of disparities, but the need to address solvable problems related to a more equitable distribution of wealth, to be achieved with moral sense and honesty.

My take: Rockhill might have a point about ‘western Marxism’ (clearly many people are eager to agree with him) but he never articulates it in his book. He asks a rhetorical question in the title and tells us it will take two more volumes to answer it. It’s a nothingburger.

@Merton191265 @damagemag He doesn't call her a Marxist, but routinely singles her out in the book. This is one of the frustrating things about it, why is she in a book about Western Marxism? We'll never know

@MattPolProf @damagemag In your review you say that Rockhill characterizes Hannah Arendt as a "Western Marxist". Do you have citations for that? It would be mindbogglingly dumb to claim her as a Marxist ("Western" or otherwise) when she never even identified or acted as one

Canadians need a true progressive alternative. The NDP is the only party that will put the needs of the 99% first.

I enjoyed my chat with Hank Green. Three years ago, AI leaders, including Elon Musk, warned we were moving too fast and even called for a pause. Nobody listened. @AOC and I are saying the same thing: slow it down and make sure AI works for people — not just billionaires.
