Just a reminder. These people believe Christianity is ultimately about affirming creeds created hundreds of years after Jesus that contradict the Bible.
When they say “Christian” they do not mean “A follower of the New Testament Jesus” they mean “someone who affirms certain post biblical creeds”

Christians have not recently been adept political thinkers. So, 2 things on this… 1) We should respect Mormons enough to be honest with them that, by their own self-identification, they are “not creedal Christians” (what Mormons THEMSELVES will say, bc they understand they disagree with many/most of the core doctrines of Christianity that are expressed in the earliest creeds) 2) Christians need to develop the ability to understand there are two overlapping but distinct realms: the church and the state (Jesus, 1 Peter, Augustine) Therefore, there will be some people that are on a DIFFERENT TEAM spiritually (not Christians), but on the SAME TEAM culturally (aligned in almost all political / cultural goals). If you don’t understand this, you will oppose people you should befriend in the political/cultural realm, and you will befriend people you should differentiate from in the church/spiritual realm.

Because by saying we are not “Christian” it’s a way to signal to others that we are not for anyone seeking the Jesus of the Bible.
The idea is to convey that our religion is not centered on the biblical Jesus Christ.
It’s a rhetorical tactic, not an honest assessment of our beliefs in the New Testament Jesus Christ.

Potentially unpopular opinion with my LDS friends / followers: The Church spent the last decade insisting the world use its full name and drop “Mormon/LDS.” The military complied. Also, if the LDS Church is the restored church distinct from a fallen Christendom, why is being listed separately a grievance?

Can LDS please explain to me how he’s in good standing with a calling? Questions publicly the FP and first vision. Legitimate question because in the 90s this would have resulted in discipline.
Has the church gone soft? Or has doctrine changed? I want a conversation.

Saying “God is non-binary,” that is an incorporeal, transcendent being beyond the human categories of gender, is the most obviously theologically correct statement one can make about God (unless you’re a Latter-day Saint, and maybe not even then).

@ThoughtfulSaint @_Davreek_Rahimi @nicoraytruth yeah, I personally believe that when somebody enters into the public space by publishing books or publicly becoming a LDS influencer, they open themselves up to the possibility of excommunication because of teaching false or damaging doctrine. I can agree with you on that

Leaders who don’t prevent their members publicly teaching insanely false doctrine are not doing their duty

@q_3st The idea that a fertilized egg is a person with a soul has no basis in our doctrine or in the history of the church and the ancient church. Nor does it have a history among the Jews or the ancient Jews. The idea that life begins at conception is a modern political concoction.

@q_3st The church does not believe that ensoulment begins at conception. It is actually very clear that miscarriages in the first trimester are different from still births in the handbook. The church has at multiple times defined abortion not as killing but something like unto it.
