@FUbuzzcity If NBA aim to have new teams play in 28-29 season, they probably need to finalize the expansion plan this calendar year. The early opt-out is after 28-29 season, so if teams want a new CBA before the expansion, they can just take their time.

@mcley I guess? Shams said 28-29 at some point I assume both sides would agree to opt out since they’re expanding?

Nice subtle move. On the surface, Hornets pay more out of own pocket (league won't reimburse 2-yr minimum contract like the way they do for 1-yr one), but it gives Hornets more flexibility in the offseason. And if the option was picked up, it counts more in salary matching.
Michael Scotto@MikeAScotto

Update: The Charlotte Hornets signed Pat Connaughton to a two-year deal, which includes a team option for the 2026-27 season worth $3.82 million, league sources told @hoopshype.

“Our guys deal with a lot. They are not the ones that initiate. They are not the ones that crossed the line tonight.” Bickerstaff speaks on tonight’s alteration between the #Pistons and Hornets.

Highly recommend anyone who's interested in transaction details to take a look at this. I tweeted some notes on Hornets' trades, but this free document gives you a whole picture of different parties involved in trades.
Bobby Marks@BobbyMarks42

Every transaction (trades, signing, 10-day, Two-Way, suspensions) for the past week has been added and applied to the CBA. Fun exercise (plus the doc is free) if you are interested in the mechanics of transactions. sportsbusinessclassroom.com/bobby-marks-cb…

@HornetsCentral_ I don't know a way that Hornets could do the trade without using part of MLE. I will check Spotrac and ESPN later for reference. They have sources.

@mcley So did we use part of the MLE on Dieng or will we never know?

@KeganLowe Thanks. I'll need to check Spotrac website later. Contracts are aligned with the season when Miller's rookie contract extension starts.

@mcley I think the third year of Mann’s deal is also a team option? Makes you realize how clean the books are going into next season.

2) remaining MLE and untouched BAE will begin to shrink in value after today. I'd expect MLE to be "gone" tomorrow. 3) Hornets are $5M under the tax threshold, but are $11.7M under the First Apron, meaning plenty of flexibility to do end of the season (e.g. draft night) trades.

I always like the way GM Jeff Peterson constructs the trades. No one really looks bad (except "the other team"?). Some notes: 1) I assume Hornets used most of Non-Tax MLE in trades. And they generated another TPE (about $8.2M) which is good for 1 year.

The Los Angeles Lakers are trading Gabe Vincent and a 2032 second-round pick to the Atlanta Hawks for Luke Kennard, sources tell ESPN.

@BobbyMarks42 Did Hornets use part of Non-Tax MLE in the Plumlee-Dieng trade?

@YossiGozlan The MLE has been reducing in value since Jan. 10th.

Charlotte Hornets cap situation after acquiring Coby White. He can extend with the Hornets for up to three years, $52 million due to his trade restriction. He's expected to command more in the offseason. The Hornets have plenty of flexibility to pay him.

If this is the case, Hornets use part of remaining MLE, which will expire at the end of the regular season, to absorb Dieng's contract (about $6.7M), then create a larger TPE (about $8.2M) which is available for 1 year.
Yossi Gozlan@YossiGozlan

This seems like the logical pathway since a four-way trade gets some of these teams into roster spot issues. The Hornets would take Ousmane Dieng into their mid-level. Then it's Dieng for Coby White Collin Sexton for Mike Conley Jr., creating a $8.2 million trade exception.

🎞️Film Findings | Charles Lee found ways to make plays with Ryan Kalkbrenner stationed in the corner. While counterintuitive, it worked. With initial advantages, the @Hornets forced Orlando to rotate, freeing Kalkbrenner for (potential) lobs. I'd love feedback on these videos!

@sakatierney45 Thanks. Looks like your source is from LaMelo’s camp. So Hornets organization is playing 3-D chess to unload LaMelo?

Just heard from my source; Lamelo and his camp are happy in Charlotte and want to continue. They won’t force anything but they also won’t stay if not wanted. Sounds like these reports are coming from the team. They may have had enough and want him out. Let’s see how it goes.
