A Nigerian couple in the UK has been jailed after orchestrating a massive tax fraud scheme using stolen data from London transport workers.
Luciana Akanbi, a former Transport for London employee, accessed personal details of over 100 colleagues. Together with her husband, Femi Akanbi, they filed 139 fake tax refund claims using information from 40 victims.
The scam was valued at roughly R11.7 million, costing the government about R7.8 million. A judge described it as the worst data breach in TfL history.
Both received sentences of 3 years and 9 months behind bars. 🚔
