⚡BREAKING 🇮🇷🇨🇳 Iran has stated that only China will be permitted to transit the Strait of Hormuz, describing the move as a gesture of appreciation for Beijing’s support of Tehran during the war. All other vessels are barred from passage, and Iranian authorities have warned that any unauthorized attempt to cross will be directly engaged by its forces.

@notayesmansecon Sorry I didn’t type that properly. I’m not questioning what you said, rather wondering why the markets would welcome this result? What are they seeing? Stability from green/labour? Chaos if reform had got in?

The UK FTSE has set a new all-time high UK Gilt market is very slightly higher The UK Pound £ is very slightly higher So UK financial markets have mostly ignored the Gorton & Denton by-election and you could argue they welcome the result.

Council Tax has become increasingly regressive. It now takes nearly 5% of income from the poorest families but barely 1% from the richest. For many, it's become a grinding monthly obligation to rival the Poll Tax.

@2147mill Realistically most people don’t have a spare £20k a year. How about a more realistic calculation? £200 a month maybe?

The £20K ISA allowance is wild when you think about it: £20K at 7% = £1,400/year Do that for 20 years = £820K Tax free. That's £4,800/month passive income. Most people will ignore this tweet.

The 60-70% effective tax trap: £100k salary: keep £66k £110k salary: keep £68k You earn £10k more but only keep £2k because you lose your personal allowance. Solution? Salary sacrifice into pension.

"Exhausted" Rachel Reeves could be on the way out. "To what extent is she fully in charge of Britain’s economic policy if her policies keep getting reversed", asks @joshglancy in the Times. He quotes a Labour insider who asks “What is the political economy of this government? The first budget was supposed to be about growth. Then the second one was about carving out some fiscal headroom & alleviating child poverty & the cost of living. What will the third one be about? How does it all join together? Where are we going?” Good questions, to which no-one appears to have an answer, least of all those 'in charge' of our government.

@ChrisEngland81 @_Unknown_D_ Because their whole reason for existence is to penalise what is perceived as success. They need to be seen to appeal to the workers and unions at all costs and keep their core voters onside.

@_Unknown_D_ Why do you think that is? I'm not disagreeing, but I can't get my head around why Labour wouldn't want more money to spend, to pay off a little of our debt, and another 5 years in power. Are we missing something when it comes to a flat rate of tax?

I saw a tweet where someone suggested reducing income tax to a flat rate of 20% for everyone would actually increase tax revenues. Even if that were irrefutably true it would never be done under a labour government.

£1m in something like JEPQ at a 10% yield = £100,000 a year in income. That’s over £8,000 a month. Not from a job. From your portfolio. You don’t need to sell assets. You don’t need to time markets. You just let cashflow hit your account. That’s the difference between working for money… and money working for you.

Rachel from accounts gives 18–39 year olds an instant 25% return on their money. Most people have no idea it even exists. It’s called a Lifetime ISA. Put in £4,000. The government adds £1,000. Instantly. Every year until you’re 50. That’s free money. No other country offers this. Americans don’t get it. Australians don’t get it. Canadians don’t get it. They’d kill for it. Most people here either ignore it or think it’s “just for buying a house.” It isn’t. You can use it for retirement too. £4,000 a year for 30 years at 8% becomes £566,000. You put in £120,000. Rachel from accounts gave you £30,000. Compounding did the rest. We’ve been handed a cheat code for young people to build wealth - and most never press start. Have you?

June 2024: @Keir_Starmer said “there’s no evidence that [private schools] will close” in relation to VAT on school fees. November 2024: @TorstenBell said an additional 100 private schools would close over 3 years. One year later, over 100 have closed. Educational vandalism.

Cut My Tax
Cut My Tax@CutMyTaxUK·
Could Labour politicians please stop saying that they are "asking" people to pay more taxes. They are not. They are forcing us to pay more tax under the threat of imprisonment or bankrupty. The latest weasel words come from Wes Streeting who says in a puff piece "I’m really uncomfortable with the level of taxation in this country. We’re asking a lot of individual taxpayers, we’re asking a lot of businesses.”

There's a lot more to be done to bring about the change people voted for. But I'm proud to be part of a UK Gov that's tackling child poverty, putting more money into public services in Wales, boosting wages and cutting energy bills for us all. swanseabaynews.com/one-in-four-sw…
