Thank you @CouncilmemberJG !
Councilmember Jamie Gauthier@CouncilmemberJG

I joined my @phlcouncil colleagues, @repkrajewski, and medical professionals from across our city as resident physicians at CHOP, Jefferson, Einstein, and Temple announced their intention to unionize with @cirseiu! Residents deserve dignified working conditions that respect the limits of their bodies while we ask them to heal ours. And they deserve to earn enough money to care for their families while we ask them to care for ours! I have the backs of these residents, just like I have the backs of 1,400 unionized resident physicians at Penn Medicine!

I never thought I’d be the kind of person who refused to say the “Q word” in the ED, but residency has made me 100x more superstitious

Today my nice work shirt got covered in goldfish crumbs in developmental peds clinic. For a moment I was frustrated. Then I felt so incredibly grateful that a career in medicine for me means playing with and helping kids, and my heart felt so full. #whypeds #tweetiatrician

Realizing that as a resident I am not going to see the sun for the next 4 months, I am asking yet again: Why does daylight savings exist??

For weeks, I’ve waited patiently for preliminary application data for the 2023-2024 residency application to be released by the AAMC. And today they dropped. So you know what that means. Yup, that’s right. It’s time to break it down, Winners & Losers style™️. (🧵)

I mourn for the children and families in Gaza and the occupied territories. I mourn for the children and families in Israel. We cannot continue to turn a blind eye to Israel’s actions. The children of Palestine deserve better. The children of Israel deserve better, too.

I’m a doctor. I’m a pediatrician. I am also a Jew. Images of doctors staying at the bedside of critically ill patients who cannot be safely moved during horrific violence are disturbing. Cutting off food and water is inhumane. We cannot continue to condone such brutality.

BREAKING: We are horrified by the recent bombing of Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City, which was treating patients and hosting displaced Gazans. Hundreds of people have reportedly been killed. This is a massacre. It is absolutely unacceptable.

I can’t stop thinking about our physician colleagues in Gaza who refuse to abandon their critically ill pediatric patients. “If you want to kill us, kill us while we continue working here.” - Dr. Hussam Abu Safiyah

My patient’s mom referred to me as her nurse after I introduced myself to her as her doctor and taught a medical student the infant exam on her and then presented her to the entire team on rounds so that was a real win 🙃

Me: leaving the hospital after a night shift A guy in the elevator: Long night? You on three 12s? Me: uh… I guess I’m working five 13.5hr shifts? Him: Oh my god what I decided not to mention post call rounding 🤦‍♀️ #residency

One of the most challenging parts of being a resident is being held responsible (by families, consultants, etc) for decisions that you didn’t make

Residency applicants: ask about the relationships interns have with their seniors! You have no idea how much you’ll lean on them and learn from them (and occasionally cry in front of them)

I have a lot of teachers in my medical training, but as an intern the people who have taught me, supported me, and shaped me most into the physician I’m becoming are the absolutely brilliant, compassionate senior residents. I want to be them when I grow up

@cath_lavallee @choppedsres @prestonsimm So excited for you! Agreed with Preston! Don’t be afraid to ask any and all questions! And that includes asking people to walk you through how to call consults, prep orders, etc. Advocatw for yourself and your learning, and don’t be afraid to ask to join attendings for…
