We're hiring one engineer to rewrite 500 million lines of C++ to Rust by 2030.
That's 1 million lines per month.
41,667 lines per day.
1.4 lines per second.
I called it "achievable with the right mindset."
Mindset means believing math is optional.
The strategy is "AI and Algorithms."
The italics around "and" are doing a lot of work.
I don't know what they mean.
Neither does anyone else.
We built a "scalable graph over source code at scale."
I wrote that phrase.
I've been asked to explain it four times.
I used different words each time.
No one noticed.
The role reports to Future of Scalable Software Engineering.
Inside EngHorizons.
Inside CoreAI.
I've drawn the org chart.
It's eleven pages.
Printed sideways.
Facilities calls it a fire hazard.
The mission is "eliminating technical debt."
We'll accomplish this by creating 340 Confluence pages per line of code eliminated.
Each page needs seven approvals.
Approval takes six weeks.
We've budgeted zero weeks.
We want a "growth mindset."
That means believing this timeline is real.
Realists need not apply.
The AI rewrites code with 94% accuracy.
The other 6% is "opportunities for human review."
Review capacity: one engineer.
Lines to review: 30 million.
Time allocated: yes.
I modeled this in Excel.
The model shows green.
Leadership likes green.
I changed the font color.
The posting went live.
3,847 applications.
Zero qualified candidates.
This is expected.
The job doesn't exist.
It's a budget line.
Budget lines are real.
Jobs are theoretical.
We're interviewing anyway.
The project is codenamed Phoenix.
It was Momentum before that.
Velocity before that.
Accelerate before that.
I don't believe it will succeed.
I don't believe it will fail.
I believe it will be "reimagined" in 2028 and "celebrated as a learning" in 2029.
The C++ will remain.
It always remains.
