The same thing happened with the University of California. They canceled their Elsevier contract and were expecting a huge backlash. After about a year, one of the librarians told me that they were surprised that almost nobody complained. When I was at JAMA, we did a survey of young clinicians to find out how they acquire medical information. They told us they got it from UpToDate, Wikipedia and podcasts. They specifically said they don’t read journals or textbooks.
