@fangboy_xxx @JamesJouissance The fragmentary Adorno is indispensable for any sense of the possibilities of aesthetics and art criticism in the 20th century. I only say this because most of what he says about classical music more or less directly applies to the jazz that draws on the classical sources in q

Marry Deleuze, kill Adorno, fuck Lacan… Every day I edge closer to Guattari’s Lacanian influences in schizoanalysis & the AO papers. I loathe Adorno, all of his antifascism was worse than Guattari & his cultural commentary was disastrous. Jazz is a cheap shot but…

Fredric Jameson reads so widely that you almost forget that he reads selectively and that he is not a good critic

@die_rizzen Rhetoric is like that. atleast it takes itself to be. It is the same situation with the belle-lettrestic Kant and the later Kant of the Critiques

@die_rizzen I was thinking of writing another tweet on how the phrases “inverting hegel” or “turning hegel on his head” is supposed to render unthinkable any sort of continuity in their thinking in any way. Idk why we can’t just say “the writing be like that sometimes” and move on

@nonchalantly_ I would say the same applies to Hegel's metaphysics. They are not Marx's but that's what we read for metaphysics. Weird trio these three.

nobody but adorno could single-handedly get me to believe that michael fried is not racist analogizing mahler and fauvism. nobody but adorno could single-handedly get me to keep reading fredric jameson when everything tells me not to, if only because i know that certain passages

at the end of the day, if adorno's aesethetic are not the aesthetics of marx, they are nonetheless marx's aesthetics. if one man can do with music and literature and things what another does with general society, i applaud the latter as i applaud the former

Adorno on Beethoven’s late style (subjectivity, rethought): “The force of subjectivity in late works is the irascible gesture with which it leaves them. It bursts them asunder, not in order to express itself but, expressionlessly, to cast off the illusion of art. (1/3)

there needs to be a comparative study that analyzes the rhetoric of DuBois' Black Reconstruction alongside Oswald Spengler and Gilberto Freyre. something like that

@die_rizzen I have always found the desire for some deep a priori theory or conceptual object in Marx quite strange. Just read Jünger’s “The Worker” and go to bed if you want metaphysics with your milk

price ≈ exchange value. "value" ≈ the universal quantitative character of commodities(as in the total "value" of my assets).

What does "in practice" mean here? No Marx is not giving us a general principle that we can just apply to learn the price of stuff. It is the necessary condition of the universality of money(value*). Both nominalism(liquidity preference) and metalism(lol) fail.

1. Yes, Marx basically takes a lot of mistaken things in classical econ to their logical conclusions. 2. There isn't really a way of fleshing out "socially-necessary labor time" in a way that both (a) does the work it needs to do & (b) doesn't just abandon the LTV in practice.

Does nobody find it strange that sociology just sort of appeared in the 19th century and that we now just take its existence for granted? Political philosophy and psychology sufficed for centuries; “group psychology”, a political phenomenon. What happened?
