In a socialist state the common people are not bothered by being poor and not free, but rather by the existence of other people who are more free or suffer less. And they want the state to fix this by making other people's lives worse, since they don't expect their to get better.

The statement about intellectuals vs common people is a bit naive though. Take the "common people" from already totalitarian state and you see the roles reversed. Intellectuals longing for freedom(if only for themselves). "Common people" complaining: The state is not harsh enough

@passageatarms @aakashgupta Before one is willing to treat a game like something worth days of study, it must be really good. But yes, these days you see a game that takes 50 or 100 hours, but only maybe 5 of those teach anything new. The rest is mind-numbing repetition with some slop story.

Game designers figured this out decades ago and it cost millions in failed launches. Will Wright built SimCity with a fully accurate traffic simulation. Testers hated it. The cars behaved realistically, which meant nobody could build a functioning city because real traffic is an unsolvable nightmare. He had to make the simulation dumber before the game became fun. The tension is permanent: the more accurately you model a system, the more it punishes the participant. Real medieval economies kept 90% of the population in subsistence farming. A historically accurate fantasy world doesn't produce heroes. It produces serfs. Tolkien solved this by making his economy deliberately vague. No one knows what a gold coin buys in Gondor. That ambiguity is a design choice, not a shortcut. The Reddit post is funny. The lesson underneath it is one of the hardest problems in simulation design: fidelity and fun are opposing forces, and you have to pick which one wins.

@bmcnett Apple's own Safari, when you are trying to drag a tab, stops reacting to "next window" hotkey, so you can't easily select a window to drop the tab to. Some time ago IIRC it would let you drag a tab from a window but never put it back except as a new separate window.

@bmcnett Especially bad (on Mac OS) with MS Teams, supposedly a professional collaboration tool.. Also, drag and drop on iPhones is hellish. Basically never useful but always there and super glitchy.

except for trivially moving files between file manager windows, drag and drop has never worked and 99.99% of the time it is by mistake and causes frustration
