@GavinMoodie @MichaelTaster @LSEImpactBlog There's a really interesting point to dig into here: institutions are multi-discipline while disciplines are multi-institution (typically). Your idea is one way to coordinate between institutions (budgets, staff, repos) and disciplinary channels (also need staff) - right?

@npscience @MichaelTaster @LSEImpactBlog Subject repositories could change to become overlay subject directories, linking to papers stored on institutions' open access digital repositories. Subject directories would still need resources, but fewer than subject repositories.

This blog is my reflection on the current situation, building on _many_ other people's work and opinions. In terms of my economic bias, I see plenty of examples of biz models that differ from monopoly capitalism & I believe we should have a choice as consumers.
