People aren't allergic to good cinema & storytelling but were forced to consume whatever they had at disposal w/o choice. Much has changed now as new venues of entertainment is easily available hence Film industry is changing. Cinephiles are just elitist who look down on masses.
Rahul Roushan@rahulroushan

There's no conflict in both statements. Ray was active in an era where commercial cinema was really dumb (even in propganda, recall that recently viral clip of Amitabh holding communist party symbol while fighting a villain with Trishul), audience that loved that can only be described the way Ray has.

People have insanely high standards I struggle to recall two mainstream big budget films from Bollywood as good as these two (particularly part 1) Small films yes. But big budget films that are this good? Super rare. The "big" films that we celebrate from the past have so many mediocre bits in them - Lagaan, RDB, Swades, 3 Idiots, DDLJ etc.

Not going to bother with a #DhurandharTheRevenge review. No point being called contrarian and much worse. Suffice to say propaganda ought to be more than a simplistic mere statement of events. It should be able to weave through society and culture and become ingrained. But I suppose we've been gaslit so badly that even this is profound. I generally pushback at that notion. No one accepted the Hindu terror bogey, for example. Anyway, in time, when there is more evenness in the writing of history, I think we can look back at the two Dhurandhar films as decent action films and not much more.

Satyajit Ray inspired Steven Spielberg to direct? What? Indiana Jones: the Temple of Doom, or The Schindler's List? Spielberg made a film on the holocaust (of his own people), unlike Satyajit Ray, in 1971, Ray was busy filming tourism ads for Sikkim's CIA kween 💅🏽
r@bekhayalime

Satyajit Ray has won an Oscar and inspired filmmakers like Martin Scorsese, James Cameron, Spielberg and Christopher Nolan, while Aditya Dhar has nothing to his name except his propaganda whitewashing Modi movies, he isn’t even close to Ray’s toenail.

Every other country which is even moderately successful without oil focus more on STEM than “muh humanities”. Even the well off states in India have more STEM focus while UP/Bihar is full of BAtards. We need more nurses not more wordcelling gawars.
liz@L1fafaforSale

If you’re wondering why Indians have such poor media literacy, critical thinking and why we are susceptible to propaganda, this is why - overhyping of STEM subjects and derision of any education that’s not considered lucrative !!!
